watch February 14, 2014 There is a significant commonality shared between both myself and a former Dallas Cowboy Josh Brent; and no, it has nothing to with football. What we share is an unfortunate association, one constructed from a choice that we will live with for the rest of our lives. We had some drinks, we got behind the wheel and we killed someone. Four years ago, I was sentenced to 15 years in prison. He was just sentenced to serve six months in jail, followed by probation. Same crime. Different circumstances. Identical results. We are both responsible for the death of another person. We made a conscious decision that engineered tragedy and devastated countless lives. I believe that regardless of the punishment imposed by a judicial system, it will never compare to a lifetime of pain that comes with knowing you took someone’s life. Like me, Josh Brent will live with that fatal mistake. His football career could be over, but he has an opportunity to do something much bigger than football. He can take the worst mistake of his life, and use it for something positive. He can make an example of himself, and save lives.
